being Messrs. Tn. Meyorink & Jo., Messrs. Garlowitz à do., Messra. Sander Wieler à Co., and Messrs. Reuter Bröckelmann & Jo. The mode of finansing vas the usual one of those firms or their European agenta granting us a lien on the shipments in question and drawing on us thereagainst at long sight. These drafts in the usual course were met by remittanges from their Hongkong offices in time for the maturity of our acceptamoen.

The aggregate of our acceptancsson behalf of the above firms running at the present time is about £27,000.- (twenty- seven thousand pounds). Some of the drafts in question have

matured, and failing remittanees to cover then, we had to take

recourse to the arrangement with the Bank of England to advance

their amounts.

As no inquiry, such as referred to above, has been f received by this Bank, we beg te submit that this Bank, under the License granted to it by His Majesty's Government, is on the same footing as other British assopting houses, and we shall be glad

if your Department will make the necessary sammication to the

Hongkong Government, with a view that emas collested in connection

with the advances granted by us to the above firms are remitted to

us in due course.

He have the honour to remin, Sir,

Your obedient Servants,
